About Windows

Windows, namely Microsoft Windows, is a graphical operating system developed by Microsoft. In 1985, Microsoft released an operating environment and named it Windows. Along with the upgrade of computer hardware and software, Microsoft Windows is also upgrading continuously. So far, Windows consist of Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows Server and more. Windows operating system is adopted with graphical user interfaces (GUI). Windows operating system is widely used by many PC users all over the world.

About Microsoft Corporation

Microsoft Corporation is a transnational computer technology company, whose head office is in Redmond, Washington, USA. Microsoft Corporation was founded in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen. This corporation mainly develops, manufactures, licenses and sells computers, computer software, consumer electronics and servers. Microsoft Windows operating systems are well-known all over the world and they are widely used by lots of computer users. Microsoft Corporation is the world’s largest software maker and one of the world’s most valuable companies. On May 10, 2011, Microsoft Corporation acquired Skype Technologies. This deal helped Microsoft Corporation attract more Internet users.

Windows Early Versions

The history of Microsoft Windows can date back to the first Windows products Windows 1.0, which was released in 1985. After that, Microsoft Corporation sequentially released Windows 2.0 on December 9, 1987, Windows 3.0 on May 22, 1990, and Windows 3.1on March 18, 1992 and Windows 3.2 in 1994.

Windows 9x

Microsoft Corporation sequentially released Windows 9x series which include Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98 SE and Windows Me.
Windows 95 was named Windows Chicago, which was released by Microsoft Corporation on August 24, 1995. Windows 98 was released on June 25, 1998. Windows 98 SE was released on May 5, 1999. Windows Me was released on September 14, 2000, which was the last DOS-based version of Windows operating system.

Windows XP

Windows XP was released for retail sale on October 25, 2001, which is a personal computer operating system. Windows XP is the first customer-oriented Windows NT operating system. Windows XP operating system is used by many computer users, but Microsoft Corporation stopped providing support for Windows XP on April 8, 2014. Microsoft Corporation also stopped providing Microsoft Security Essentials for downloading Windows XP. If you have installed Microsoft Security Essentials on your computer, you can still use it. However, it can no longer update. In this situation, your PC will be at risk for virus infection.

Windows Vista

Windows Vista was released for sale on January 30, 2007. Windows Vista is a graphical personal computer operating system which is available for home users and business users. Windows Vista can be used on desktops, laptops, tablet PCs and media center PCs. Compared with Windows XP, Windows Vista has a improvement on its user interface, security and software drive, etc. on April 10, 2012, Microsoft Corporation stopped providing technology support for Windows Vista operating system. Microsoft will stopped support for Windows Vista thoroughly till April 11, 2017.

Windows 7 Operating System

Windows 7 operating system was released on October 22, 2009 in USA, which is available for home and business users on desktops, laptops, tablet PCs and media center PCs and more. The new features of Windows 7 operating system are advances in touch and handwriting recognition. The performance of Windows 7 operating system is improved. Windows 7 operating systems include Windows 7 Starter, Windows 7 Home Basic, Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate and Windows 7 Enterprise. Windows 7 has a clean and easy-to-use user interface. And it has a high performance and enables users to work more effectively.

Windows 8 Operating System

Windows 8 operating system is a personal computer operating system, which was released on October 26, 2012. Windows 8 is a part of the Windows NT family of operating system. Windows 8 has changes to its operating system platform and user interface so as to improve its users’ experience on tablets. Windows 8 operating system is available on desktops, laptops, tablet PCs, etc.

Windows Server

Windows Server is Server operating system which was released by Microsoft Corporation. Windows Server operating systems include Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2.
Windows Server 2003 was released on March 28, 2003, which has many improvements compared with Windows 2000. Windows Server 2003 has the features of reliability, security and scalability, which makes it a reliable Windows platform. Windows Server 2003 R2 is the successor of Windows Server 2003, which was released on December 6, 2005. Windows Server 2003 R2 provides a much securer Web platform for its users.
Windows Server 2008 was released on February 27, 2008, which is successor to Windows Server 2003. Windows Server 2008 R2 is the first Windows operating system which only provides Windows 64 bit system.
Windows Server 2012 uses the Metro-based user interface which improved its performance and features. Windows Server 2012 is the successor to Windows Server 2012.
