Free Download Software for Dynamic Disk Recovery

For dynamic disk recovery, you need to use a data recovery program that is able to work for dynamic disk. iCare Data Recovery Pro is a tool, which has the ability to retrieve files from dynamic disk in all data loss cases:

download data recovery software

Step1. Free download and install the software on PC. Run the software and choose a scan mode.

Causes for Dynamic Disk File Loss

Although dynamic disk is different from basic disk, the data loss causes are similar. You probably run into following data loss problems on a dynamic disk:

1. Dynamic Disk Delete Recovery

You probably delete files from a dynamic disk by error or delete one or several volumes on a dynamic disk. It is available for deleted files recovery or deleted volume recovery on dynamic disk using iCare Data Recovery Pro.

2. Dynamic Disk Format Recovery

A dynamic disk usually contains several volumes. You can view the detailed information of each volume under Disk Management. On your computer, you can format volume on a dynamic disk and erase files stored on the volume. Before performing any further operation to the formatted disk, you are able to recover formatted volume in dynamic disk.

3. Conversion of Dynamic Disk to Basic Disk

You can easily convert a basic disk to dynamic disk, but you cannot convert a dynamic disk back to basic disk unless you use third-party partition magic tool. Because of conversion of dynamic disk to basic disk, the data stored on the disk probably gets lost in the process.

4. Errors on Dynamic Disk

A dynamic disk might have some other errors like disk volume turns to RAW file system? Dynamic disk is invalid? Dynamic disk is not accessible? Partition table entry is missing on dynamic disk? LDM database is lost or damaged on dynamic disk? All kinds of errors on a dynamic disk probably lead to data loss.

For any reason or error that causes dynamic disk data loss, you can free download iCare Data Recovery Pro for dynamic disk recovery.

Repair Dynamic Disk Problems

Below are useful solutions for some common problems on a dynamic disk. You can use those methods to fix errors after retrieving files from dynamic disk:

1. Dynamic Invalid Disk
A dynamic disk which shows invalid is usually inaccessible.

Dynamic disk may become invalid in following situations:

  • Dynamic disk shows invalid after replacing computer accessories
  • External dynamic disk is invalid when being connected to another computer
  • One of disk shows invalid when you have installed two Windows operating systems on a computer

Common reasons for disk invalid problem on a dynamic disk include:

  • Some Windows OS does not support dynamic disk. For example, Windows XP, 7 and 8 home edition does not support dynamic disk. Dynamic disk on unsupported OS will show invalid.
  • A part of information of dynamic is stored to registry. If you add this dynamic disk to another computer, the disk will say invalid because the registry on another computer does not save the information.

For dynamic disk invalid problem, you just need to convert the dynamic disk to basic disk. Usually, you need to use a convert tool to convert dynamic disk to basic disk. Another solution for this problem is to upgrade the Windows system to be compatible with dynamic disk.

2. Partition Table Entry / LDM Database Missing

Partition table entry and LDM database are important components in dynamic disk setups. If one of them has any problem, the dynamic disk probably becomes inaccessible. For this problem, you need to use repair software to fix the corrupted dynamic disk to make it work.

Dynamic Disk Types

Dynamic disk is created by several hard disks. Dynamic disk is available in different types:

1. Simple volume

You can create simple volume when there is only disk. A simple volume can be extended with unallocated space on the same disk or unallocated space from other disks.

2. Spanned volume

Spanned volume is created with unallocated space from two disks at least. A spanned volume supports 32 disks at most. Spanned volume is non fault-tolerant volume, which cannot be striped or mirrored. You can only extend NTFS volumes for spanned volume.

3. Striped volume

Striped volume supports 2 disks at least and 32 disks at most. Striped volume saves data to each disk with stripes of data that has equal size. Usually, the size of each stripe of data is 64KB. Striped volume is non fault-tolerant volume, which cannot be extended or mirrored.

4. Mirrored volume

Mirrored volume is mirrored data from one disk to another one. Each disk provides same size of space. A mirrored volume provides fault-tolerance and data redundancy. Two disks that are used to create mirrored volume are called mirrors. If one of the mirrors is corrupted, only data on the failed disk becomes not available, but the other disk can still function.

5. RAID 5

RAID 5 is crated by 3 disks at least and 32 disks at most. A RAID 5 volume provides fault-tolerance.

iCare Data Recovery Pro supports for all types of dynamic disk recovery in every cause that results in data loss.

Dynamic Disk vs. Basic Disk

Basic disk and dynamic disk have some differences. Below are differences between basic and dynamic disk:

1. Windows Supported

A basic disk is supported by all Windows operating systems, but dynamic disk does not support some Windows OS.

Here is basic information of Windows supported for dynamic disk:

  • Windows 2000 Professional / Windows 7 Ultimate– Support Simple volume, spanned volume, stripped volume and mirrored volume, but does not support RAID 5 volume.
  • Windows 2000 Server / Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Windows Server 2003 Standard / Enterprise, Windows 2008 Sever / Windows 2008 Web Server – Supports all dynamic disk including simple, spanned, stripped, mirrored and RAID 5 volume
  • Windows XP Home – Does not support any dynamic disk
  • Windows XP Professional / Windows Vista Ultimate – Support Simple volume, spanned volume, stripped volume, but does not support mirrored and RAID 5 volume

2. Disk capacity

You cannot resize disk space of basic disk after partitioning unless you use third-party partition software, but dynamic disk is able to be resized without rebooting or losing any data.

3. Extend disk space

You have to add adjacent unallocated space in order to extend a partition of disk volume. However, you are able to add non-adjacent unallocated space on the same disk or another disk to extend space of a dynamic disk.

4. Volume / Partition limitation

You can only create 4 partitions at least on a basic disk, but you can create unlimited volumes on a dynamic disk.
